How to take measurements?

Take your measurements correctly :

Before choosing your pattern size, it is essential to take your measurements with a tape measure:

  • Height : you must be straight and measure from head to toe, as with a height chart.
  • Chest : Measure around the fullest part of your chest, usually midway between your shoulder blades.
  • Waist : Measure at the smallest point.
  • Hip size : measure at the widest point of the hips.

Take your measurements properly (without sucking in your stomach, or in the morning on an empty stomach) while breathing normally.

Then compare these measurements to the size chart in the pattern and choose your size accordingly. Choose the size closest to your measurements.

For babies and children

Ikatee patterns are designed to match a child's measurements according to their "actual" age. For example, a 5-year-old pattern is designed for a 5-year-old child measuring 110 cm. Conversely, in ready-to-wear clothing, it's customary to buy a size larger than the child's age (we take a 6-year-old as soon as the child is 5 years old).

Start by comparing the child's measurements to their actual age. In most cases, this will match. If it doesn't, the determining measurement is height.

Please note: the volumes of the ikatee patterns are ample to be comfortable for the child.

Baby models are not patterned in the same way as children's models, the constraints are different. They are more suitable for wearing diapers; they are designed to make life easier for babies: button tabs at the crotch, lower crotches... This is why we have chosen to separate the patterns into two size ranges.

Sizes 3 and 4 years, which are common to both size ranges, allow you to choose the pattern best suited to your needs.

For women

Ikatee patterns come in two size ranges: 34 to 46 and 32 to 52, which correspond to ready-to-wear sizes. We still recommend that you take your measurements to compare them to those in our chart; you may notice a difference with your retail size.

Depending on body shape, it often happens that not all measurements correspond to the same size (42 for the chest and 44 for the hips). In this case, the choice of size is influenced by the type of pattern. For example, for pants, the hip measurement is the most important. The chest measurement has no influence. For a blouse, on the contrary, the chest measurement is the most important.

We use a height of 165 cm to create our patterns. This means that it may be necessary to modify the pattern to perfectly fit your body shape. These adaptations are explained in the patterns and on our dedicated page .
