Finding the right size for a swimsuit or underwear is not complicated but rather specific.

These products must be very close to the body (for stockings, panties or boxers in particular because these are small pieces for which the stature is less important than the corpulence and the age of the child....) it is recommended not to take an age higher than the real age of the child. For example, as long as a child has not reached 7 years old, make small pieces of swimsuits and underwear in 6 years. If in doubt, it is better to take the size below than the size above.

NB: for ages 10-11-12, some measurements differ between boys (G) and girls (F)

Then, you have to check the measurements of the chest circumference, hips / pelvis circumference. Indeed, the jerseys in particular are worked in negative ease, that is to say that the measurements of the margins are reduced a little so that the product is well fitting and therefore that the support is assured. The material used will be with a lot of lycra so it is super stretchy. It is preferable that the jersey sticks to the skin. Also, if your child is tall but rather slender or curvy, you will need to refer to the size correspondence and adapt your pattern.

I summarize...

  1. we start from the pattern corresponding to the age of the child
  2. then we adjust the widths if necessary according to the curves or the rather small silhouettes by referring to the sizes corresponding to the circumferences of the chest and hips/pelvis. It's easy because you have access to the multi-size pattern which groups all the sizes on the same sheets. So we can easily take the parts in width.
