It's not just aesthetic: this texture means the fabric never fully clings to the skin. Air circulates between the little bumps and the body, which gives a permanent feeling of coolness, even in high heat.

Our tips for sewing seersucker well
Seersucker is an easy fabric to work with, accessible even to beginners. It handles without slipping and is sewn with a universal size 70 or 80 needle and an all-purpose polyester thread. A few precautions, however, help preserve its texture.
First habit: pre-wash your fabric, as cotton can shrink slightly in the first wash. On the other hand, avoid pulling too much on the fabric while sewing: it's the pucker that gives seersucker all its charm, and stretching it would flatten it. Let the fabric present itself naturally under the presser foot.
If you have to press a seam, do it with the tip of the iron, at low temperature and on the wrong side, without crushing the texture. As seersucker frays a little at the edges, overcast your seams (overlocker or zigzag) or opt for French seams, which are very elegant on this material. Finally, respect the grainline and the direction of the stripes when cutting: that's what will give your piece a truly polished finish.
Caring for your seersucker creations
When it comes to care, seersucker is a dream fabric. A machine wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle is enough. Air-drying, and above all: no need to iron, the pucker sets itself back in place all on its own. Just avoid the tumble dryer at high temperature, which could slacken the texture over time.
